Footnotes & Backstories

Opened peanut shell with the word 'Hi' written inside.
Yes, I ate the peanut.

The Slippers (2005)

Forgot to swap the slippers—turns out America learned about podcasting from the slippers guy in the 2005 LA Times interview that essentially introduced 'podcasting' to the mainstream. The kitchen table was the studio.

The Relic (Clinical Systems, 2002)

The psych emergency room was always on "divert" because the transfer list was a typewritten relic nobody updated. I audited the system, rebuilt the network with every licensed bed in the region, and ended multi-day gurney stays for patients in crisis. Revenue stabilized; the system functioned.

The Mayor (Civic Systems, 2011)

The 2011 mayoral race against an 18-year incumbent missed by only 1,600 votes. We ran a 300-point fiscal reform plan on a $53k shoestring budget against a $760k machine. Data-driven door knocking and media campaign nearly toppled the kingpin.

The Overhaul (Emergency Systems)

Stepped in to lead a volunteer fire department on the brink of a state-ordered shutdown. Optimized the essentials in a race against an anticipated state inspection; passed the inspection with limited notice. The department stayed open; the system held.

The Center (Natural Systems)

Turned a forgotten state nature center from zero visitors into a buzzing hub for the CT DEP. I authored the state's first official volunteer policy to keep the doors open. Accolades followed, but the bureaucracy ultimately preferred their "buddy" over an innovator.

The Mountains (Physical Systems)

Eight years in half-a-person-per-square-mile country—one hour forty-five minutes to groceries. Camped for the first year while swinging the hammer on the second of two houses I built myself. YouTube was the only architectural consultant I needed.

The Rat-Race (Financial Systems)

Hacked my way out of the Matrix after implementing 'Your Money or Your Life' by Dominguez and Robin.
